Eoghan McDermot will not be returning to 2FM after unexpected break

RTÉ has confirmed that Eoghan McDermott will not be returning to RTÉ 2FM.

In a statement released today, the station said: "RTÉ confirms that Eoghan McDermott will not be returning to RTÉ 2FM. His contract is due to expire shortly. 

"RTÉ is developing a new direction for the 2FM Breakfast Show which will be revealed in the coming weeks.

"Doireann Garrihy will remain with the show."

McDermott has hosted 2FM's Breakfast Show alongside Doireann Garrihy for the past two years, with the duo winning the Best Breakfast Show at last’s year IMRO awards. 

He previously worked on Spin 103.8 and XFM in the UK

Since joining RTÉ in 2014, McDermott has hosted a number of TV and radio shows including The Voice, RTÉ does Comic Relief and Drivetime on 2FM.

He began his TV career on TG4's POP4, a music request and top 40 show. Other TV presenting credits include Frenemies - a youth debate game show for RTÉ2, and Immeal Geall, a bilingual magazine show for BBC Northern Ireland.

He co-presented a series of The Movie Show on RTÉ2, which aired in November 2012.

Since 2015, he has hosted the Irish selection shows for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. He is also the narrator for the reality dating series Love Island Australia.
