Man charged with possession of a pipe bomb in Kerry

A man has been charged with possession of a pipe bomb, firearms and ammunition in Kenmare, Co Kerry at the weekend.

59-year-old Ivan Gilder of Gearha North, Blackwater Bridge, Kenmare, Co Kerry was arrested during an operation on Saturday involving the Garda Special Detective Unit and members of the Defense Forces.

Mr Gilder has been charged with knowingly having in his possession an explosive substance, namely a pipe bomb.

He is also charged with the possession of a 12 gauge shotgun, a rifle, 400 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition and 125 shotgun cartridges.

He was released on bail subject to conditions that he reside at his permanent address, sign on at a Garda station and comply with Covid-19 restrictions.

He is due back before the district court in Killarney next month.
