Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of a man that occurred in Ballyfermot in July last year, have charged two men (aged 25 and 32) this morning.

Thomas McCarthy received a number of gunshot wounds on the morning of 27th July in the Croftwood Park area and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr McCarthy was living in England for many years and was visiting his mother for a week when the incident happened.

Gardaí said at the time, the shooting was a planned and targeted attack and had all the hallmarks of being gang-related.

It is understood that a number of gunmen arrived at the house that morning and Mr McCarthy was shot when he opened the door.

Both men charged today are due to appear before Cloverhill District Court today.
