A phased easing of Covid-19 restrictions begins today with the full resumption of in-school teaching.

Some 300,000 first to transition year students are expected to return to classrooms.

Building work on residential projects can also recommence, as well as construction on childcare and early learning facilities.

An estimated 20,000 construction workers will be back on sites.

However, around 20,000 other construction workers will remain on the PUP payments as some restrictions still remain, according to the Construction Industry Federation.

The 5km travel limit is among the measures which is being lifted from today as people will be able to travel anywhere within their county.

They can also travel up to 20km from their home if they are crossing county boundaries.

People from two households can meet up outdoors for social and recreational purposes.

However, this does not include meeting up in private gardens as public health officials believe this would result that people would gather indoors.
