Five arrested after shots fired during Garda raid in Cork

Five people have been arrested after shots were fired during a garda search operation in Co Cork.

Gardaí, supported by the Armed Support Unit, were carrying out a search of a house at Island View, Rochestown Road, yesterday evening.

While attempting to gain entry to the premises, a shot was fired by the occupants inside.

Gardaí say the scene was then secured by the Armed Support Unit, and that no injuries were reported.

During the search, Gardaí discovered two firearms, ammunition and a number of petrol bombs.

In addition a number of other weapons were seized, including axes, cleavers, hatchets and pikes.

Five people - a man in his late teens, two men in their 20s, and a man and woman in their 50s - were arrested, and are being held at a number of garda stations in Cork city.

Gardaí say their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
